Derrick Sueki, PT, DPT, Ph.D., GCPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, defended his Ph.D dissertation on associative learning and the role of memory, trauma, and injury on pain, cardiovagal, and motor responses. Since 1999, he has been a primary instructor in the Department of Physical Therapy at Mount Saint Mary’s University, and in 2015 he accepted a professorship in the Department of Physical Therapy at Azusa Pacific University. Sueki is a chief editor of two orthopedic textbooks and has authored numerous works in textbooks and peer-reviewed journals. He is serving as chair for the Orthopedic Specialty Council, and on the California State Physical Therapy Association’s Research Council. Since 2001, he has been a primary therapist for the Association of Volleyball Professionals, and serves as their Southern California Medical Coordinator. Sueki is a certified orthopedic clinical specialist, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, and specializes in the science and management of chronic pain.
Joyce Shahboz, PT, CSCS has been working in outpatient orthopaedic and sports clinics since graduating from the University of Florida (1995) with specific interests in combining manual therapy, movement correction and exercise training.
Her interests in swimming increased after swimming under Master’s coach, Jim Miller, MD, who was also a team physician for USA Swimming and would later consult for FINA. In 2007, she started a dry land and strength training program for an elite level age group swim team that was started by Mike Davidson, member of the New Zealand Olympic team and Alabama SEC championship team. She eventually became a Level 1 USA Swim coach, was an on pool deck therapist for the US National Team at a US open swim meet, a member of the USA Swimming Sports Medicine and Science Network and participated in a medical team rotation in Sports Performances for the USOC at the Colorado OTC.
Over the last 2 decades, she has worked with elite junior, senior and national/international level swimmers and coaches as well as athletes from other disciplines. Her oldest daughter swims for the University of Florida with another daughter currently in the recruiting process.
Her own personal interests in strength training and movement efficiency started while training in martial arts while completing her undergraduate degree. She then ventured into triathlons, mountain biking and over the decades, led her to Ninja Warrior, rock climbing and aerial/circus arts.
Tara Ruppert is an occupational therapist (OT) and certified hand therapist (CHT) with 20 years of experience. She earned a post-professional OTD from George Washington University in 2017. Her career started in school-based pediatrics in 2000, then moved into outpatient rehab by 2003. She obtained the CHT specialization in 2008 and worked in outpatient clinics from 2007 to 2015, treating a wide variety of upper extremity orthopedic issues and working with multiple hand surgeons throughout Omaha. She transitioned into teaching in the occupational therapy program at the College of Saint Mary in 2015, where she currently teaches courses like Principles of Kinesiology, Upper Extremity Rehabilitation, and Physical Agent Modalities. In addition to teaching, she returned to part-time clinical work at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center in 2017, where she mentors other OT’s and covers Hand Clinic. Tara grew up in Omaha, has been married for 17 years, and has 8 children (3 with two-legs, 5 with four-legs).
Taylor Summers is the owner and founder of Optimal Movement Rehabilitation and Performance. Taylor is a St. Louis native who specializes in ACL rehab and has a passion for the weightlifting/crossfit community as well as bridging the gap between rehab and performance for high school and college athletes.
She tore her ACL her junior year of high school, initially sparking the interest in becoming a physical therapist after a long and gruesome rehab process that allowed her to continue to play college soccer at Quincy University.
After playing 4 years of college soccer, Taylor went on to Washington University in St. Louis to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Taylor has extensive training in ACL return to play, video jumping and running analysis, dry needling, and ASTYM (soft tissue mobilization).
Her goal is and has always been to provide exceptional care to clients and patients while helping them achieve all of their goals. She believes in a true holistic rehab process and is passionate about providing clients with all of the education and tools necessary to move smarter, perform better, and live optimally.
Dr. Ivie has been fascinated with human movement since starting gymnastics at a young age. With fifteen years of competitive gymnastics experience, including Division 1 Gymnastics at the University of Arizona, she has a strong passion for the incredible resilience of the human body, specifically related to injury and return to performance. She combines her athletic and professional experience to help each of her clients achieve their long term health and movement goals.
Dr. Amy Werner has over 15 years of experience treating dancers of all levels. Currently practicing at Sound Body Physical Therapy, she spends her day treating athletic artists from 50+ local dance schools, professional companies and studios. Dr. Werner provides backstage care for traveling Broadway shows as a consultant with NeuroTour, and is a primary PT for the Portland professional dance organizations BodyVox, NW Dance Project, White Bird, and Oregon Ballet Theater (OBT). Previously the Care Coordinator for OBT, where she administered pre-season injury assessments and oversaw an on-site health and wellness program, she now designs bi-monthly strengthening classes for OBT2, the junior company. An advocate for dance wellness in the community, Dr. Werner hosts workshops related to dancer health for pre-professional dancers, parents and educators. She is a member of the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) and Pivot Dancer, as well as a consultant with The Ellové Technique®. Dr. Werner has presented in Montréal and Ireland with IADMS, as well as locally with Oregon Dance Education Association and Dance and Drill Coaches Association of Oregon. Her passion lies with working with dancers at the personal level while running her IG education account @dancedpt.
Anita is an FCAMPT physiotherapist based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. She works in orthopaedic private practice and owns 3 physiotherapy clinics. She has been teaching in the Atlantic provinces since 2011 in a variety of roles. These roles include clinical instructor with Dalhousie School of Physiotherapy, creating and teaching private courses, mentoring physiotherapy students and CAMPT residents as well as instructing Orthopaedic courses.
Her background is in manual therapy, movement pattern assessment, movement correction, load management, and management of the running, barbell and functional fitness athlete.
Anita approaches treatment as an opportunity to help people move better and stay moving for life. She is an advocate for strength training for all ages and assessing how people move as a big picture. Then, when needed will utilize manual therapy and manipulation to facilitate better movement and pain management.
She is a competitive masters CrossFit athlete, runner and olympic weightlifter with a special interest in treating athletes of all levels from these disciplines.
Dr Gelber is a board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist. Her background in Foot & Ankle and Running comes from her role in the Running clinic while on faculty at Washington University in St Louis program in physical therapy (2008-2016), at Children's Hospital and Medical Center in Omaha working with runners aged 12-21 (2016-2019), and with her practice, Forward Movement Analysis & Rehabilitation (2017-present), through which she treats athletes and provides continuing medical education for physios and athletic trainers.
Dr. Laurel Proulx is a pelvic therapist, educator, and researcher. She received her B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Kansas (Rock Chalk!) in 2009. She then attended Regis University, where she was awarded her DPT in 2013. Most recently, she has successfully defended her dissertation and achieved her Ph.D. at Texas Woman’s University in 2021. Her current research is focused on the musculoskeletal impairments of women with chronic pelvic pain. She is an assistant professor at Baylor University DPT. Dr Proulx is also the owner of FEM PT and Performance.
Matt Foster, PT, DPT is a graduate of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at Washington University in St. Louis, MO in the class of 2015. Prior to physical therapy school, he graduated from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Wellness. He has developed his skills in both the realms of strength of conditioning and rehabilitation while working for Memorial Medical Center’s SportsCare, a hybrid facility in Springfield, IL which provides services of rehabilitation and performance training for athletes. He now is the Lead Physical Therapist for Barnes Jewish West County Hospital’s Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation (STAR) in Chesterfield, MO. Matt’s past experiences include training and competing in competitive powerlifting.
Bobby Jean Lee, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT, SCS, OCS, CSCS, USAW is a Physical Therapy Clinical Specialist at Texas Health Sports Medicine (THSM) and Texas Christian University Athletics Department (TCU). She is the Clinical Outcomes Research Clinician and Team Lead for the Concussion Management Program at THSM. She is also Co-Owner of Clinic to Field Physical Therapy, a continuing education company specializing in Concussion Management. She graduated from California Lutheran University in 2011 with a B.S. in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine and Duke University in 2014 with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She then completed a Sports Physical Therapy Residency at Ben Hogan Sports Medicine and a Manual Therapy Fellowship Program through the Institute for Athlete Regeneration (IAR). Bobby teaches as part of the Physical Therapy and Athletic Training Residency Programs at THSM and is faculty for the IAR Manual Therapy Fellowship. She is the current Vice Chair for the Concussion SIG for the American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy. Bobby has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has been invited as a speaker at numerous local, state, and national conferences in sports medicine.
Dr. Sprague holds the positions of Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Medicine and Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics in Emory University’s School of Medicine. His primary teaching appointment is within the Physical Therapy Division in the Emory School of Medicine where he is the co-course coordinator for the Musculoskeletal Rehabilitation course, the course coordinator for the Introduction to Interventions course, and course coordinator for a course he developed entitled “A Movement System Approach to the Orthopaedic Client.” He is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and currently serves on the Committee of Content Experts for the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Dr. Sprague has extensive clinical experience working with high school and collegiate athletes in an interprofessional team setting and has assisted in the development and implementation of screening procedures assessing for musculoskeletal injury risk for collegiate and professional sports organizations. He has an active research agenda exploring movement as it relates to outcomes following ACL reconstruction and is interested in exploring the effects of functional based exercises on scapular muscle activity. Dr. Sprague lives in the Atlanta area and enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and 3 dogs.
