Joyce Shahboz, PT, CSCS has been working in outpatient orthopaedic and sports clinics since graduating from the University of Florida (1995) with specific interests in combining manual therapy, movement correction and exercise training.
Her interests in swimming increased after swimming under Master’s coach, Jim Miller, MD, who was also a team physician for USA Swimming and would later consult for FINA. In 2007, she started a dry land and strength training program for an elite level age group swim team that was started by Mike Davidson, member of the New Zealand Olympic team and Alabama SEC championship team. She eventually became a Level 1 USA Swim coach, was an on pool deck therapist for the US National Team at a US open swim meet, a member of the USA Swimming Sports Medicine and Science Network and participated in a medical team rotation in Sports Performances for the USOC at the Colorado OTC.
Over the last 2 decades, she has worked with elite junior, senior and national/international level swimmers and coaches as well as athletes from other disciplines. Her oldest daughter swims for the University of Florida with another daughter currently in the recruiting process.
Her own personal interests in strength training and movement efficiency started while training in martial arts while completing her undergraduate degree. She then ventured into triathlons, mountain biking and over the decades, led her to Ninja Warrior, rock climbing and aerial/circus arts.
